Earthling

I literally started this 9 months ago.  .......It's my baby. 

Also, I'm conflicted on which category it belongs to....do I still consider it manga/anime style? hmmmmmmmmmmmmm

I wanted to depict a personification of earth with a cancerous growth that is modern human civilization.  I couldn't focus the drawing on it enough though, there's too much going on.  I failed in a sense but oh well, problem identification is the first step to improvement?

The crown on her head is an iceberg, melting, which can be seen through the hard-to-see-jewel droplet things that's also part of the crown/headband.  They're also like tears.  The gold make up represents the sun.  The gold feather earring represents earth's fauna, and also because I thought it looked cool XD.  The wave of water is supposed to represent rising water levels and/or natural disasters [due to anthropogenic climate change].  There is a yellow haze around the sketched out city (differentiating man-made and natural objects which are fleshed out in colour) depicting light pollution, which drowns out the beautiful starry night sky which can be seen in her hair.  Originally, I had hoped to represent the skin colours of the human race on her body based on their geographic location (white in the northern areas/arctic, graduating into asian tones, and ending with dark skin which also represents the rich soil from which all life start), but I failed, I couldn't get the right colour scheme to work with the blue without it looking too...clashy.   Oh and also, I tried to make the bodice like a cloud-lace type material, so she covers from the ground to the sky.

But despite the many failures this is the best piece I've done so far so I'm happy with it.  I've been too afraid to draw concepts I like but not enough skill to properly display them, but the heck with that. And finally I'm drawing something that's not fanart!  

Anyways, school starts in a couple weeks.  At least I got one thing done this year LOL.
